For those keeping track at home, Avalon Emerson is an electronic producer and DJ who in 2023 reintroduced herself to the music world with her band, the Charm. Under that banner, she released a pretty fascinating middle ground between both of her creative ids in the experimental pop outing, Avalon Emerson & the Charm. The album title has now become the proper band name, though, now leading into Avalon Emerson & the Charm’s sophomore(?) effort, Written Into Changes.

The evolution doesn’t stop there, as we’re now hearing the New York City stylistic polymath and her collaborators again mutating her sound into something resembling elastic, glitched and beat-driven pop-rock she helped sculpt with co-writer, co-producer and former Vampire Weekend member, Rostam Batmanglij that sweeps up a spell of synesthesia with an electric pulse for the star-crossed. “And in a lightyear or two down the line / When it all collapses on itself folding time / And our dust finds each other in the thin / I’ll understand if you leave me again,” she sings as the ether binding the two. Just don’t expect her to be that same matter the next time she appears…
