Mandy, Indiana – “Cursive”

In the world of typeface fonts, there’s nothing more singular than the art of cursive, given that no one person (or computer, for that matter) can 100% emulate another person’s handwritten style. That being said, there’s something to be read into Mandy, Indiana entitling the latest preview from their sophomore effort, URGH, “Cursive”, given that the Manchester industrial dancemakers are entirely in their own element at every curve within their explorations of sound bouncing off the energy of this world around us.

That’s exponentially reinforced by the the four-piece of vocalist Valentine Caulfield, guitarist and producer Scott Fair, synth player Simon Catling, and drummer Alex Macdougall, as they mine out the listen’s kinetic particles in what’s touted as their most collaboratively created track yet. Its first half would be convincing of that as is through its stimulation of hard, aortic thumps, but its when the hyperactive bass sequences and skittering rhythm sketched out by Macdougall flow into line where the signature pulse of Mandy, Indiana’s full body can be felt moving through one limb. “Plus de pensée que la danse / Et ma main dans ta main,” Caulfield exclaims in trance. Like every consonant and vowel, their desire is to connect their energy to yours.
