peaer – “Bad News”

Patience is something we could all stand to practice more in our listening habits leading into this new year of new music in a time when there always seems to be so much of it being put in front of us. peaer, the New York based project of Peter Katz, seems like the right kind of artist to start that challenge off. After all, it’s taken him six years since his last release in 2019’s A Healthy Earth, to find his way back to this version of the world with doppelgänger. Between decompartmentalizing the daily grind on lead single “Button” and now, delivering its latest “Bad News” with careful consideration, he and his band are forcing you to slow down in your consumption process as the listen pars down the emotive rock noise of his preceding sound in favor of subdued, spindling math equations with a psychedelic pop bonus stage that really lets the mind meander in his think bubbles. “Take my advice / Get out of line,” he sings. This quiet disruption from the new norm is more than welcome.

Peaer’s doppelgänger will be released January 16th on Danger Collective.
