Makthaverskan – “Pity Party”

“And all the life and love turned into ashes / Nothing really matters,” sings Maja Milner on “Pity Party”, a C86’d dousing that proclaims the return of Makthaverskan in what’s become signature fashion from the Gothenburg post-punk band: marking an end of something once beautiful now dying as the beginning of their next chapter. As the lead single from the Swedish quartet’s new album, Glass and Bones, their first new music in six years effortlessly recaptures the wide-eyed wonderment that oft produces a spectacular, sparkling dreamy gaze even from the most melancholic moments, and then some as Milner holds nothing back in her song, or lyric for that matter. “Where there was life now there is a battle / Your war / My mind.” And Makthaverskan are laying it all out on the line.

Makthaverskan’s Glass and Bones will be released April 3rd on Welfare Sounds.
