Where will this coming new year will lead us in a day and age where everything can feel impossibly fraught? Perhaps the better answer is the leave it to mystery, which at least finds its salve in the transcendent escape within the cosmos of two of contemporary art’s most extraordinary composers on “Melt Moon”, the latest highlight from experimental harpist Mary Lattimore and ambient etherealist Julianna Barwick’s collaborative effort, Tragic Magic. Put these two forces of nature in the same room (one filled with the Musée de la Musique’s instrument collection in Paris, to be exact) and supernatural things will happen between their creative telepathy. As the listen sparkles beneath the lunar nightlight of Lattimore’s crescent strings before its shape dissolves around Barwick’s halo, we bare witness to a celestial experience born in sound.
Mary Lattimore & Julianna Barwick’s Tragic Magic will be released January 16th on InFiné.
