LAPÊCHE – “I Heart NY”

Be it vintage alternative and indie rock, Midwestern emo, or blistering NYC post-punk, LAPÊCHE have tried a few different approaches to living out their truths through underground rock quite well over the last decade, but it really seems like they’ve found the right combination between them all that’s simply theirs to own leading into the Brooklyn band’s release of their new Alex Newport-produced album — and first for Tiny Engines — Autotelic.

In these dead end stages of the year, the balanced out melodic commotion behind a track like “I Heart NY” fits right into the hustle and bustle of the holiday season within the city’s rat race, which begats some serious self-reflection and the bitter cold hard truths coming out of them. “Your shine’s exhausting / Your winter’s the same / With no embrace,” sings Krista Holly Diem over the prevailing static and crunch of riffs and a few glimmering key changes in clarity. “It’s been addicting to always feel your heartbeat in my brain.” Resolution is there if she wants it. At the very least, she and LAPÊCHE have sorted themselves out in sound.

LAPÊCHE’s Autotelic will be released February 6th on Tiny Engines.
