It would not be far fetched to suspect that there’s a huge intersect between today’s prescription drug culture being used to treat various behavioral disorders and a reinvested interest in shoegaze with an entirely new generation of listeners disenchanted with reality. What works for some may not work for others, however, and on “Shape Of An Angel”, the latest single from recent Julia’s War recruits MX LONELY’s debut album, All Monsters, the Brooklyn underground rockers find themselves submerged so far beneath a fog of Adderall that the reflection in their post-Hyperview style of rippling guitars, pooling synthesizers, and crushed currents of feedback leaves vocalist Rae Haas staring back at someone they barely recognize anymore. “You don’t love me, honey / You love walking my dog / And I’m in love with Adderall / And validation,” they sing, with that hit of euphoria within their grasp. Or is it just an imitation of it?
