The mark of an artist whose work is timeless on arrival is one who can write a song “sometime back in 2014 or 2015,” re-record it several years later for a new audience who may or may not have been sleeping on their prolific DIY output before their other (bigger) band broke through, and still have that thing sounding like it was intended for listeners of modernity. “Holy Boy”, the title track and closer from Nate Amos’ forthcoming This Is Lorelei greatest Bandcamp hits revisited, is that creative space-time continuum trickery. I’m not sure if that’s because of the MIDI sputtering throughout or the way Amos channels ’90s Midwestern emo melodrama with Alex G’s lackadaisical free-wheeling into one tightly-wound indie pop loop, but whatever that magic behind his earworms is, this boy proves that This Is Lorelei easily transcends dimensions.
This Is Lorelei’s Holo Boy will be released December 12th on Double Double Whammy.
