In this instance, “Weaving” is a metaphor for when two artists are symbiotic in inspiring one another while expanding the reach of the other’s work to their own audiences. As the duo LEYA, harpist Marilu Donovan alongside vocalist and violinist Adam Markiewicz make spectrally haunting music in a delicately minimalist form which has made them quietly become an institution within the New York City experimental underground as well as spaces beyond across two albums, two EPs, mixtapes, and collaborative efforts. Similarly outlying creatives across stylistic boundaries such as Eartheater, Liturgy, and claire rousay, and yes, even PornHub have broken new ground with their convergence.

Their latest, a cover of their song “Weaving” from last year’s I Forget Everything extended play by Brooklyn noisemakers YHWH Nailgun, is one that applies their revisionists’ momentum to their own on the heels of their own breakthrough standout debut this year, 45 Pounds. It’s not the first time the two bands have crossed paths — they played a show together this past may at Elsewhere — but it’s likely the first in which LEYA have heard a solidly-reinforced rebuild with sharper edges ascribed to their composition while YHWH do their most to fit themselves into LEYA’s melodic effervescence without rupturing its framework. Entwined, the experiment between two of the NYC underground’s far-out sonic singulars finds its stitch in the groove.
