“Have I grown complacent after all?” wonders Ned Russin on “Not Forever”, the final preview from his band Glitterer’s imminent new album, erer. It’s hard to agree with him on that one. For years now, he’s been grinding on a near-annual basis with his post-Title Fight excursion — an ongoing sonically mutating post-hardcore deep dive into the id and existentialism that tends to ask heavy questions of the self like this — and now with the band’s form solidified as a four-piece and the album arriving under Russin’s own Purple Circle Records label, the actions of the art at least don’t match the harsh analysis. This version of Russin — stewing in his own purported unimpressive nature and apathy — is a dark vibe shift from the ultraviolet surge of last year’s Rationale. He alongside guitarist Colin Gorman, keyboardist Nicole Dao, and drummer Robin Zeijlon slow down those racing thoughts, allowing them to fester before boiling over and screaming out the answer: “I can’t remember / It’s not forever.” Glitterer’s arc of progress is a thing of methodical movement, even if it takes some grueling patience to get there.
Glitterer’s erer will be released November 21st on Purple Circle Records.
