“Some gay in a car blasting ROSALÍA,” read a text that came through the day “Berghain” dropped. That tracks. For that side of the culture, the lead single from the experimental flamenco artist’s new album, LUX, hits like a bomb going off in one just the same as it did for the Gen Z rock revivalists in Brooklyn earlier this fall. As the first glimpse into the follow-up that was the multi-lingual art-pop transcendence of the Spanish superstar’s incredible 2022 listmaker, MOTOMAMI, the Spanish superstar is building us up with all of the drama and bullshit you could want in maximalist effect and creative oddity: a string symphony and choir introducing the next chapter like the lead on to peak climax in a five act Greek tragedy, ROSALÍA operatically meeting it in flawless emotional execution in three tongues, mother fucking björk appearing from the shadows to deliver further omen, while Yves Tumor repeatedly shouts, “I’ll fuck you ’til you love me!” Accompanied by its visuals directed by Nicolas Méndez, it’s already one of the year’s most riveting trailers in new cinema.
