Artist: Her New Knife, the four-piece of guitarist and vocalist Edgar Atencio, guitarist Ben Kachler, bassist Carolina Schooley, and drummer Elijah Ford
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Buzz: A conflicted feeling of unsettled and safe in the escape is the experience Her New Knife want to leave you with. A realm coexisting in a dark dreamscape of ethereal shoegaze, treacherous post-punk, and noisy rock, the Philly quartet have been crafting their spell from the underground up through a spiderweb weave of ornate yet violently sharp guitars, rhythm surmounting and spinning you through deep melody, vocalist Edgar Atencio’s multi-lingual tongue hushed against its heavy wave crests, and the occasional snarl and scream from the unknown that has managed to made its boldest apparition within our physical plane to date through last year’s extended play, chrome is lullaby.
But what if I told you that there was an alternate universe to discover all of this just as well. With the release’s forthcoming deluxe edition, featuring the remix addendum chrome is lullaby: re, Her New Knife are able to introduce more converts to their sound through the sonic journeys of their experimental contemporaries like their next gen shoegaze scene visionaries They Are Gutting A Body of Water, the doom grates of red rakes, the synth pop etc. of SILICONE VALLEY, and the respective offshoot limbs of Frost Children and Sword II in Angel Emoji and Certain. They splice, splinter and splatter the canvas using sound collages, industrial machinery, colorfully kinetic club energy and electronic explorations that see the outlines of Her New Knife’s work from the other side of the door. The final destination is the same. They’re equally adventurous thrillers.
Sound: The caverns of the mind pondering whether you’re in a dream, a nightmare, or even a surreal waking reality.
Recommended: “purepurepure” and “vitamin beauty” from last year’s EP, chrome is beauty, “kittyriff (They Are Guttin A Body of Water remix)” and “vesselera (SILICONE VALLEY remix)” from their forthcoming remix EP, chrome is beauty: re
Her New Knife’s chrome is lullaby deluxe will be released October 31st on Julia’s War.
