“How am I supposed to create change I want to see? / It’s not enough / Sit around and worry while the world is blowing up,” shouts Ned Russin on Glitterer’s “Stainless Steel”. It’s a question we’re all asking ourselves, man. 2025 has been one of those fuckin’ years trampled by a series of devastation and unfortunate events. If we’re being totally honest, the last decade really hasn’t had much of a great track record on an annual basis when it comes to humanity in decline either. This is the shit that stops you dead in your track from being able to live your life to the fullest.
Still, in spite of those lofty, world-on-your-shoulders anxieties, the D.C.-based band led by the former Title Fighter manages to keep trudging forward on the lead single from their fourth studio album, erer, and they’re doing so with every bit of muscular might behind the grungy, hardcore-pop sound which they solidified on last year’s first fully-fledged and fleshed out four-piece effort, Rationale. The answers to these big thoughts perpetually pondered by Russin’s existential head always seem to lead to another unknown door, but the way he and guitarist Colin Gorman, keyboardist Nicole Dao, and drummer Robin Zeijlon fortify screaming into the void with vivid static and gleam reinforces that another version of reality can exist if we want it, with a little mind trickery: “I’ll pretend that I’m stainless steel / I’ll forget that all is real.”
