Horse Jumper of Love – “Mansion”

It’s become an unfortunate reality that artists and labels need to pull out some creative stops to keep their albums relevant within the listeners’ conscious in a day and age where there is simply too much music vying for listeners’ attention, and thus, we’re seeing even those within the indie leagues giving their original releases a jolt with a handful of bonus tracks and / or remixes.

Unlike today’s biggest billionaire pop stars who are merely conning their fans with throwaway variants and voice memos, Horse Jumper of Love aren’t here to waste your time or your money with that matter thankfully. Last year’s listmaking effort, Disaster Trick, is finally getting the expanded compact disc release with two brand new songs, a few alternate versions, reworks, and nascent stage demos appended to its end. That’s a solid deal for those who held out for (bias alert) the best listening audio quality experience and a physical media that’s most compact and portable.

With that, “Mansion” is one of the newer cuts from the deluxe release. There’s some dalliances with heavier material amidst HJoL’s snow-spun slowcore weather on Disaster Trick, but this one is arguably one of trio’s loudest listens to date, Pile-ing on the big, bouldering riffs that give their building an almost-noise rock foundation. Check it out below…
