Bay Area indie rock polymath Chris Natividad had a lot of creative energy being sent out into the world last year across three separate band releases in the glum, atmospheric post-punk of Marbled Eye, the technicolor dream-pop of Aluminum, and his ‘gazey alternative noise rock band, blue zero. The latter looks to have won out for the time being in becoming his main focus throughout 2025 and headed into the beyond, as the band — who released their listmaking debut, colder shade blue, last year — will be headed out on tour across the pond this November.
Once they get there, they’ll have four new songs to add to their arsenal when they release its follow-up in the four-song extended play, CONFUSION. The title track further clarifies Natividad’s focus, as it features some real slick guitar rock aerodynamics suggesting that the level up from the four-piece is the point. The listen lays waste almost immediately to the disposable me and the disposable you in stereo with treacherous buzzsaw guitars, colorwave hooks, and a chorus shape-shifting between the slacked and saccharine of Natividad and Lauren Melton’s dueling vocals. If “CONFUSION” is next, consider us ready to hear where blue zero are going with the rest of it…
