As the year creeps to a close, these pages are beginning to think about the best breakthroughs of the year, and BALMORA would have to be right up there. The experimental Connecticut metalcore band released one of the year’s most epic extended plays in just three songs length in their Prologue EP. A new music video for the highlight — but aren’t they all? — “Blighted to Pine”, is your reminder that if you haven’t given it a listen yet, you really need to do so, because something is telling me that their debut album is going to be a big deal in the scene whenever that things arrives. It’s demonically obliterating and all-ending. As for the watch, it’s nothing fancy, but keeps their DIY ethos firmly in tact: camcorder-quality life on tour and the debauchery they’ve left in their wake. As consummate road warriors, they’ve done a ton of that in 2025, and you’ll be able to catch more of it this fall when they open for the second leg of the stacked Chat Pile and Fleshwater co-headlining tour.
