bar italia – “rooster”

bar italia’s creative image has never really focused on the efforts of one member over another. They hardly like to acknowledge who carries vocals where in a song in liner notes, for that matter. They’re too effortlessly cool to care about such details, and with that, Nina Cristante, Jezmi Tarik Fehmi and Sam Fenton’s contributions co-existing on equal ground only seems to refine their craft better with time. “rooster”, the latest preview from the London trio’s new album, Some Like It Hot, is remarkable because of how it provides a fix for everything you could want in their nonchalant style, from Cristante’s eerie-yet-seductive presence grinning through dark toeing pianos before storming through alongside the listen’s grunge-sawing guitars. Fehmi and Fenton get their time to spin the room in their direction as well — all accentuated by its Simon Mercer-directed music video — and it’s easy to both hear and see why they’ve quickly become one of indie rock’s most welcome oddball cast of characters.
