Militarie Gun – “Throw Me Away”

In just about a month’s time, all roads will once again lead to Militarie Gun when the Los Angeles alternative hardcore band releases their sophomore album, God Save The Gun. As with the nature of them being a creative wild card, you never really know which way the stylistic pendulum is going to swing in their sound, considering we’ve already two very aesthetically different singles with the anthemic post-hardcore ballad, “Thought You Were Waving”, and the cheerleading chant rager, “B A D I D E A”.

It’s got a lot to do with Ian Shelton complex headspace going into the effort, with his vulnerabilities being laid right out there from every angle. “Throw Me Away” is a happy medium between its predecessors, with it being a pogoing adjacentcore banger that doesn’t lose any of its energy despite Shelton’s self-deprecations bringing him down hard. “I shouldn’t be the one to love / Yet here I am smothered in hugs,” he hustles to shrug out his point. “My only use is to make you angry / Save yourself put me in the trash.” Cliché’s be damned and all, but this one lends credence to the idea that it can also be someone else’s treasure.
