Public Opinion may just be your favorite hardcore-adjacent band’s favorite hardcore-adjacent band. Atop of announcing a run of fall tour dates opening for one of their earliest champions in Militarie Gun, they’re putting out a new three-song EP on new label home, SideOneDummy, that guest features one Patrick Kindlon of Drug Church and Self Defense Family on its lead single “Laughing Academy”. If this isn’t your queue to catch up with last year’s slept-on debut album, Painted On Smile, then let their studio level-up here be it. The listen adds a thick layer of polish over its garage rock riffs, and they only help its punk-pop chorus line shine. It would be hard to miss at any rate — vocalist Kevin Hart and Kindlon just ain’t having it with society’s projections. “It’s constantly reminding me of what I lost / Of what I’ve got and of what I’m not.” Nobody here gives a fuck, making for an entertainingly reckless kind of energy.
