forever ☆ – “Competizione”

Someone over at another site recently referred to forever ☆ as a “junglegaze” band. I guess I get it, but you also can’t help but laugh at this point because just when you think we’ve invented all of the micro-genres of shoegaze imaginable under the cosmos, along comes another band that makes it all the more necessary to look beyond known boundaries. Much like the freshly recommended debut album from Nuclear Daisies, it’s near impossible to put forever ☆ into one or even a buckets of sound, and “Competizione”, the latest preview from the Kansas City duo’s forthcoming sophomore effort, Second Gen Dream, is arguably the hardest to pin down so far. An afterburn of guitar static, hyper-glitched electronic samples, and an effervescent blur of dream-pop harmonies between David Chavez and Rachel Stang are stealth within the same lane on the speed track. If you were to spin this listen on repeat, it would loop almost seamlessly. That it leaves you constantly on the chase makes it all the more difficult to define.

forever ☆’s Second Gen Dream will be released August 29th on à La Carte Records.
