Winter – “Without You”

In the polar ends of shoegaze, the grandeur of Wisp may be looking toward winter right now, but the bedroom eyes of Winter herself are yearning for another time and place altogether on “Without You”, the latest preview from the New York City-by-way-of-Brazil songwriter’s new album, Adult Romantix. The feeling hits hard right now especially, too. We’re in the dead heat of summer where everyone else seems to be living their best lives out there with much more happening with plans, relationship lives, and social circles. For the lonely, that can have a weird way accentuating the seasonal depressive FOMO during a time where you’d hope to be making the most of your longer days. Samira Winter doesn’t need concrete spaces and faces to know those feelings are valid in the slow-swaying daze of her dream-strummed “saudades.” “The city has turned a different shade / It feels so strange / Without you,” she coos. It’s an honest effort to fill her pool with a clearer reflection.
