Behind the strength of their promising first EP, Hell In A Cell, Jobber broke onto the scene back in 2022 as a group of indie rock ring vets led by guitarists Kate Meizner (who’d put in her reps touring as part of Snail Mail and Potty Mouth’s live bands) and Mike Falcone (current frontman of Hellrazor, former guitarist of Speedy Ortiz) before solidifying the band’s four horsemen with guitarist-keyboardist Michael Julius and bassist Miles Toth. We last heard from them a couple of summers ago with the single “Summerslam”, but fast forward to 2025, and this time around, they’ve got their sights focusedon the main event.
While Jobber’s debut album, Jobber to the Stars, will be released later this summer on the reliably rocked out Exploding In Sound Records, its lead single “Nightmare” exists now to attempt a counter to the evergreen existential grips of being leg-locked by capitalism. You don’t need to remind us that the parallels between the worlds of pro-wrestling and socio-politics are more apparent this day and age than ever, but the more Meizner’s brings her own personal and professional feuds to life through song (as well as its visuals, featuring real life indie wrestler, “Iron” Rip Byson,) it’s endlessly entertaining to hear just how much you can apply the lessons of the squared circle to our own mundane grudge matches. Throw it down with a legit jam of Moog-assisted riff-popped moves, and you can at least hope that if you’re feeling just as stuck, there’s this recurring “Nightmare” in your head reminding you how to survive hard times.
