Dummy – “Soonish… (Wishy’s Deep Ecstacy Mix)”

Dummy has a lot of music — past, present, and remixed — to support right now. The Los Angeles experimental noisemakers are currently touring the world over in support of last year’s best album and sophomore effort, Free Energy, but they’re also planning a remix of the album entitled Bubbelibrium DLC atop of a reissue of their earliest EPs. Talk about independent scene workhorses who are out to earn every listener they get! Along the way, they’ve made some uniquely kindred friends who are hopping on the aforementioned Bubbelibrium DLC to help reshape their music as the Energy flow on, with the final preview leading up to next week’s release coming from past European tourmates Wishy (who also just released an excellent new planetary EP and are also supporting their own contribution to 2024’s best albums in their debut, Lucky Seven.) They’re taking on “Soonish…”, the album’s early hot spot of surging feedback-and-synth-heavy psychedelic shoegaze-pop that finds good company in their own work, and tripping it out into spacey atmospheres with a looser — dare I say, baggier — fit fashion. Voices meander in and out of the conscious, and the original’s buzz acts more like a floating guide for its ellipses to get high than the driving force behind its pleasure.

Dummy’s Bubbelibrium DLC will be self-released June 11th.
