After years of toying around with origin stories and fucking with the press, the Armed opted to drop the curtain on there identities and swung for the fences with 2023’s Perfect Saviors. While you have to appreciate the audacity for a once-engigmatic art-core supergroup to go from DIY punk club live darlings to trying to reach the bleacher seats in the stadium at Queens of the Stone Age shows in more refined anthemry, “Well Made Play” is a welcome retreat back to the guts of the matter where salvation is promised, but never enough for those they ire. As the first single from the Detroit experimental crew’s fourth studio effort, THE FUTURE IS HERE AND EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE DESTROYED, hearig the collective once again ambiguously screaming into a void racing our way while getting freaked on blasts of noise-jazz and barreling metalcore just feels right. Oh, look, is that Deafheaven’s George Clarke in the press photo even though he’s not named as one of the players on deck this time around? And where did all the women in the band go? It’s good to hear the Armed back in these kind of terrifying graces during these post-truth times, making you question reality to their advantage once again to the fullest.
