Alien Boy’s new album is entitled You Wanna Fade?, but an alternate title could have also easily posed the question, “You wanna be torn apart?” taking in its final single ahead of tomorrow’s release. With “I Broke My World”, The PDX rockers do what many of their peers in realm of appropriating shoegaze gestures at loud decibels at bigger pops wish they could in completely upending the emotional state of what it means to being on the brink of obliterating yourself, euphorically. It’s not like the formula they’ve tapped into is an overly-scientific one. There’s beauty in the way the self-destruction of Sonia Weber words, delivered both blunt and on point, get swept into a storm of dense, bleeding-red layered guitar feedback at just the right the speed to curve an impeccable hook. “Inch by inch, I pulled the strings out from every side until I screamed out / I broke my world!,” she shouts through the chorus. It’s like getting caught in the middle a whirlwind, and deciding to become one with it even if it leaves you tattered into pieces.
