BLEED were made for this moment in rock music. One part a silver glint of nü-metal, aother part grungy nü-gaze, and more than a few hits from the heavier corners of melodic hardcore with a slick, thick coating of production shellac heaped atop of its aggro emotions, and tracks like “Enjoy Your Stay” — the second preview from their Dallas quintet’s anticipated debut album — stands out with the kind of energy that has helped catapult bands like Knocked Loose and Turnstile into the mainstream. This one goes into overdrive the second it starts with its headcharge of deep-and-dark ponderings, and the end destination can only be the abyss. “Your thoughts have all rendered down / Right into what once was / Someone who’s full of love / Now only failed expectation,” Ryan Hughes sings. “The feeling has left you without / The words to make this real / You’re waiting around to diе alone.” As Olli Appleyard from fellow feedback-drenched heavy rockers Static Dress screams the listen over the top into a breakdown marked for brutality, BLEED make a welcome place for an inevitable mental collapse.
