There’s a lot of filth in this world that can weigh you down, but you can put faith in the fact that a song called “In Search of Tomorrow” is telling no lies in its title when it’s coming from a band like Youth Code. For the last decade-plus, the Los Angeles duo of Sara Taylor and Ryan George have been perpetually refining a harder vision of industrial EBM where its influences probably work better in today’s genre adjacent climates than they did when they were initially being creatively conceived. It makes you wonder if perhaps the state of the world only feeds that energy. Neverless, while that may have led the pair into a present where Taylor is becoming increasingly more comfortable shouting into hazy melodic valleys than static voids, they’re still speeding down a pulsating industrial grind befitting to consume every empty dream and anxiety racing through a livewire brain. “When will the hands of fate / Release me from this choke?,” Taylor demands answer. In white-knuckling existentialism, Youth Code are the ones who sound like they’ve got the future in a grip.
