Glare – “Nü Burn”

Maybe it’s someone we cared about who no longer walks this Earth, a past love, the growing distance from a friend, or perhaps it’s merely a moment in time where everything felt better. I’m willing to bet that a lot of us are grieving someone or something right now during these colder, darker times. For four minutes and 12 seconds, Glare put us back in touch with the warmth of whatever the feeling is on “Nu Burn”, the latest from the Texan heavy-gaze band’s debut full-length, Sunset Funeral. Though the listen contributes yet another whelming offering of big riffed rock for feedback junkies as ghosts echo their prayers unto the shoegaze revival alter, familiarity to all of those sonic yesterdays isn’t such a bad thing to sound like in this moment. “I’ll find you / In a new sun / Feel a new burn.” In a way, reaching for the light at the other end — hot as it may be — is the only way to know you’re still alive.
