“Bottle Blonde”, the latest single from Momma’s new album, Welcome to My Blue Sky, is another assured sign from the band led by Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten that everything was always going to be okay for them with this whole music career thing in the long run. As can be part of the growing pains of being a younger artist seeing their career’s takeoff, the alternative pop rockers’ breakthrough effort, Household Name, brought them new found success but also brought on a lot of mentally-taxing life-altering decisions, with bleaching their hair blonde not being the least of them. This song looks back on years 23 and 24 — collected in its past-meets-present self-directed homemade visuals — with the kind of wisdom that comes from learning to trust your natural instincts, and the music continuing to grow out that confidence. “Bottle blonde, you’re a god / You’re gonna figure it out,” goes its chorus over a sweet sip of cloud-gazing guitar-pop made all the more wide-eyed with sun samples speckling throughout. It’s a great look on them.
