Speedway – “Permission to Dream”

Speedway are a melodic hardcore band who hail from Stockholm, and they’ve got a cool energy about them where it’s like their sound is filling some of the void that will be inevitably be left once their fellow countrymen and scene vanguards Refused hang it up again after their final tour this year, all while injecting a modern youth crew hunger behind their the shouted anthems. Following two EPs and putting in their reps on the road, they’ll be looking to break ground here in the States when they release their debut album, A Life’s Refrain, this spring on seminal hardcore label, Revelation Records. Lead single “Permission to Dream” doesn’t come alone, introducing them to the uninitiated as already well-versed in these parts, having recorded the effort with Title Fight brethren, Ned and Ben Russin, mastering it with heavy music studio dynamo Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Show Me the Body) and throwing in Ekulu’s Chris Wilson into its vocal fracas. Anyone feeling grifted by these times will find reason to rally with its message. “Pay the price of a lifetime / For a permission to dream!,” screams the listen early on. It’s all about tearing down whatever barriers are standing in the way of us getting what we know we’ve earned from there. But also, doing the damage together.

Speedway’s A Life’s Refrain will be released April 11th on Revelation Records.
