If there were ever a band to be fully capable of cracking the sky wide open and barreling through any dark clouds standing in their way, it just might be Superheaven. That they return onto our horizon during these “Cruel Times” especially is at least a glint of something pure intentioned to keep hanging on as everything else in this world falls apart. The lead single from the the reignited grunge-core originals’ first new album in a decade, vocalists and guitarists Jake Clarke and Taylor Madison, bassist Joe Kane, and drummer Zack Robbins’ return is a loud one, scaling up the muscle mass on the body of their heavy riff storm and exploding out through doomed atmospheres. “I just wanna be your inspiration / Shining like the sun through pitch black,” Clarke proclaims. The forecast may be bleak, but with friends in the sky like these, it’s at least keeping it from falling.
