“Survival Ain’t Taught”, but Jivebomb are tough as nails to figure it out on their own. The Baltimore hardcore crew have been building up a thick-skinned exterior for a few years now, with their 2022 listmaking EP, Primative Desires, being a promising display of destruction toward any ills and evil forces threatening their existence. Now that they’re warmed up, they’re going full-on wrecking mode with the lead single off their debut full-length, ETHEREAL. What a name to give a hardcore album, as there’s nothing soft or hazy about the listen. Vocalist Kat Madeira steps to anyone who thinks they’ve got a say in who’s in control over anyone else’s destination. “With the world in the palm of my hands / Your times up, now I’m the big man.” Coupled with a grinding artillery production from Uniform’s Ben Greenberg, the five-piece bodyslam sludgy hardcore riffs with the mean-mugging cadence of a rap diss track. In one fell swoop, they’ve ended their haters while formally marking their arrival.
