These are some heavy times, and it makes sense if you’re wondering if you’re just living in some warped, alternative timeline where everyone else is in on the joke but you. On “Sweetest Friend”, Vulture Feather vocalist and guitarist Colin McCann is questioning that wider view. Is it reality or is it just some kind of all-too-real illusion? Are the people in your lives really standing next to you or just temporal distractions feigning good company throughout time? If it all seems very whelming, the latest single from the former Wildness members’ forthcoming sophomore effort, It Will Be Like Now, swells large enough through its big, anthemic post-punk riffs and broken open atmospherics to contain the emotional thunderstorm. “What once was solid / Has dissolved without a trace.” So, hold on to nothing as hard as you can, because everything is fleeting.
