If you enjoy your jangle-pop shimmering with a touch of narcissistic tendencies but without the racism, well then the Tubs have got your even-headed solution. Or maybe not? “Narcissist”, the second single from the Welsh band’s upcoming sophomore effort, Cotton Crown, provides post-mortem grief with the perfect foil in the form of a romantic tryst whose own self-absorbed nature can at least be just the distraction you need from grappling with hrader realities. Owen ‘O’ Wilson stops short of calling it a healthy one, as even he’s self-aware that his own actions are a bit main character much. “Said you were a nightmare/ Well I wanna see/ You should do it to me,” he sings in harmony with Ex-Vöid bandmate (as well as former Joanna Gruesome bandmate) Lan McCardle, though the coalesce between the two saccharine voices around George Nicholls’ guitar-pop purity may be just another calculated manipulation. For now, it’s a sweet distraction…
The Tubs’ Cotton Crown will be released March 5th on Trouble In Mind Records.
