To the best of my knowledge, terraplana haven’t made their way over to play any shows here in the the United States just yet, but there’s a very good chance that 2025 will be the year where regardless of that, those beyond their native Brazil finally take notice of their sound. With two EPs and an acclaimed debut album in 2021’s olhar pra trás under their name, they’ve already received live cosigns from the likes of Deafheaven, Turnover, and Slowdive as well collaborated with another buzzy group of fuzz-popped indie rockers in Shower Curtain last year. “charlie”, the lead single from the Curitiba four-piece’s sophomore follow-up, natural, introduces them to the wider world as a really promising craft study on the modern shoegaze and hardcore-adjacent forms. The lush lightness of vocalist and bassist Stephani Heuczuk’s hovers just inches away from melodically frayed electricity, and allows you to see the outlines of someone skydiving into a place of safety away from more tumultuous clouds. “Só quero estar aqui / Do inicio até o fim,” she sings. On Earth as it is in heaven.
