That space cowboy from Dissolution Wave has found himself back down to earth on “Bad Larry”, the latest single from Cloakroom’s just-announced Closed Casket Activities debut, Last Leg of the Human Table, though we’ll stop short of saying it’s been an easy transition back to the blue dot. Perhaps being surprised by his surroundings might be the better way of putting it, as much like the future world now surrounding our protagonist, nothing is as it once was in the universe of the Indiana trio’s latest expansion on their post-shoegaze sound. In a day and age where everyone is going country, Cloakroom at least bristles with that notion. Traditionalist western stars waltz through the gleam of a star-dusted atmosphere, with vocalist Doyle Martin’s balladeering channeling actual cowboy energy into the ether swaying behind interstellar waves. Something about it all feels very freeing in not being beholden to one world or another. “Do I tuck my tail and give up the trail?,” he wonders. “I don’t know what they’re tellin’ you / Little things are easy to lose.” On he and Cloakroom’s own defined dusky path, it’s a journey worth wandering down.
