“Numb to What Is Lost” is the second new Superheaven song to hit the Earth’s atmosphere in 2024, and that’s something to celebrate heading into the New Year. The influential purveyors of the modern grunge-gaze movement haven’t released any new music since initially going on hiatus following 2019’s Ours Is Chrome, and with the arrival of this past autumn’s “Long Gone” with the band being fully back in action on tour, there’s reason to believe the New Year might be the year where we get a new album from the PA quartet. While “Numb To What Is Lost” may dive deep into a lingering detachment from feeling, there’s no shortage of electricity quaking and rhythmic bursts throughout that keep your attention span directly impacted at the present’s surface. You know, there were moments over the course of the past year where it felt like maybe this subset of densely-reverbed space rock had peaked, but with the static spawn of Fleshwater selling out shows in short order and slated to open for Deftones afterward, Wisp opening for System of a Down, and Glixen playing Coachella, 2025 may just be that scene’s biggest moment yet…
