SPY have seen enough, but haven’t we all? The Bay Area hardcore band’s’s sole single of 2024 preps us all for whatever the fuck awaits us in the New Year, with full-on vitriol for the state of everything happening in our surrounding world being spewed across its slam dance of noise, punk and D-beat beatdown. The band’s last album was in their 2023 breakthrough debut, Satisfaction, which in itself sounded like a mouthful of the guts and blood of the despised clinging off the teeth of vocalist Peter Pawlak, but here on this turn, their intensity has only grown in their hunger to devour filth. That’s to be expected, though. When you keep pushing those at the bottom out there fighting for their survival to the edge, eventually various forms of starvation will lead to a reaction, and from this vantage point, SPY go for it like they’ve nothing left to lose.
