Kassie Krut – “Blood”

In less than a day, Kassie Krut — the new band featuring half of the members from the great, departed Philly art-punk band, Palm — will be releasing their eponymous debut EP. If you’re wondering why list season hasn’t commenced just yet around these pages, it’s because releases like this necessitate waiting before making a final call on what’s been excellent this year, and based on its early singles “Reckless” and “Racing Man”, Kassie Krut are one of those special occasions. Before it drops, we’re getting one more tantalizing preview full of “Blood”. In it, frontperson Eve Alpert muses desire over fractured canvas of synaptic synth-pop and a plunging electronic bass beat, as if to mimic the brain splintering into wonderful haywires as the heart pumps serotoninal lust throughout the rest of the circulatory system. “Kinda wanna break you up / Hammer it home / Think I’m gonna make you mine,” Eve Alpert sings. Comet incoming, Kassie Krut are an unavoidable force of attraction.

Kassie Krut’s Kassie Krut will be released December 6th on Fire Talk.
