André 3000’s confoundingly brilliant, flute-based cosmic jazz album New Blue Sun is getting a second wind a full year after its initial release thanks to a handful of Grammy noms and a short film documenting its recording creation. With that watch, we’re provided a soundtrack with “Moving Day”, part of a newly released EP of the same name featuring the new track, the new track backwards, and the New Blue Sun outtake, “Tunnels of Egypy”. It’s an almost 12-minute long ambient astral adventure that hears 3000 and his collection of collaborators further experimenting with a universe-expanding soundscape using instrumental and synthetic effects that mimic extraterrestrial signals and earthen receptors chiming together between distances far reaching. As the listen wears on, the signal activity and natural noise begins to busy over its meditative aspects before settling its pulse. This can be seen as a mirror to the artist’s evolving work in motion — a great way to describe the Outkast rapper’s second act in exploring new realms.
André 3000’s Moving Day is available now on Epic Records.
