Poppy Jean Crawford – “Glamorous”

It makes sense that an artist like Poppy Jean Crawford and her darker energy would resonate deeply with someone like Angel Olsen. Consider both to be two different sides of the same coin, as both in their respective aesthetics nod to a gothic-gilded version of old Hollywood with dramatic lovelorn emphasis, and the incense burnt from their voices is something that carries timelessly through an ethereal air each moves through. Spark a fire in the same seance room which the two energies intersect, however, and you’d have Crawford’s “Glamorous”. An early preview from Olsen’s curated compilation, Cosmic Waves Volume 1 — which introduces lesser-knowns like Crawford to Olsen’s own listeners on its A-side and hears Olsen interpreting their songs into her own on its B-side — Crawford’s grunge goth-pop is the romanticization of Hell hath no fury through the Los Angeles songwriter’s howl and squalor. “Everything sounds sweeter as said with authority,” her voice swirls into the firestorm. It’s certainly got you listening…

Cosmic Waves Volume 1 will be released December 6th on somethingcosmic.
