Expose’s origin story states that they “crawled out of a drum machine” in 2019 as the then-solo outlet of vocalist and drummer Trent Rivas before expanding into the larger cast of contributors including guitarists Jeff Stephens and Duke Guisness, synthesizer James Novick, bassist Jake Getz, viola player Coleman Sawyer, and saxophonist Brian Bartus. That’s a lot of human flesh and creative energy to leverage alongside any and all instruments thrown into the studio together. “Speed Dial” — the first single off the band’s debut album, ETC — doesn’t skimp on making the most of any of it. The call is coming in fast as well with the intensity of a hardcore pit-rallying number, yet there’s those flairs for the weirdo arts among the crash. It’s only degrees away from noise rock, egg punk, and free jazz at various points, making it impossible to trace the ID back to one caller and a listen defying the bounds of sonic communication.
Expose’s ETC will be released January 24th on Quindi Records.
