There’s no doubt that Thirdface got expelling aggression down to a science on their 2021 debut album, Do It With A Smile, but if you, too, are getting the sense that there’s a stylistic level-up sitting on the edge of their fury leading into this week’s release of their sophomore follow-up, Ministerial Cafeteria, its final preview “Sour” exclamates that observation. The Nashville hardcore rockers have given us more than a taste for their capacity to hold more noise in their heavy weight sound with the album’s early singles “Meander” and “Midian”. “Sour” does that, too, but flexes its endurance to erode muscle and bone from the belly of the visceral. As vocalist Kathryn Edwards commands the discomfort stirring, Thirdface burn through you like a slow acid.
