Kassie Krut – “Racing Man”

Before finalizing your list of best EPs of 2024, you may want to hold your publication buttons until December 6th. This would be the day that Kassie Krut, the experimental electronic pop and post-Palm project of founding vocalists Kasra Kurt and Eve Alpert alongside Matt Anderegg of Mothers and Body Meat will be releasing their eponymous debut extended play on the heels of one of the year’s best breakthrough singles, “Reckless”. “Racing Man”, its latest preview, is similarly ambiguous in its shape with its wobbling bass and industrial fissures corrupting the core into a delirious inquisition that could either be a basketball or tennis metaphor, or something more nuanced within the existentially political. “Could have been a apple or a frog / But I can’t stop counting all the cowards on the court,” Alpert’s voice attempts to find balance on uneven terrain. “I’m a racing man gunning for the runner at the front / ‘Til I’m cast out far beyond the.” Beyond the what? With everything these days wavering in uncertainty, there’s no need to fill in that blank.
