Soccer Mommy – “Abigail”

The long game behind Soccer Mommy’s new album Evergreen has been a rewarding one. What started out as an understated album rollout where its early singles “Lost” and “M” were barebones and stripped back has since revved up in direction with the recent indie rock fuel behind “Driver”, and now something serenely starstruck by a purple-haired object of affection with its final preview, “Abigail”. This is a reminder that Sophia Allison also happens to have one of the more brilliant minds for being able pull deep feels from the sky of even simulated realities — in this case, the character of Abigail, a character from the farm life role playing game, Stardew Valley. “And in the night, I find you in the dark / Haunting some graveyard and / I see the moonlight shining on your face / And nothing’s ever felt this way.” Gothic pop-rock romance swirling around celestial synths is just as equally a good look on Soccer Mommy’s dream world.

Soccer Mommy’s Evergreen will be released October 25th on Loma Vista Recordings.
