Anxious – “Counting Sheep”

They hinted it was the beginning of a new era, and they weren’t lying. After conquering the world over from the basement to the festival stage with their emotionally-charged melodic hardcore, growing pains and all, Anxious sound ready to take the next big step with their forthcoming sophomore effort, Bambi. Lead single “Counting Sheep” is a massive emo rocker — a sign of massive growth and how they’ve taken stock of everything they’ve learned along the way, leaving adolescent romanticism behind, and swinging for the fences with wherever the road leads them next. Combining vocalists Grady Allen and Dante Melucci, Anxious have never been in short supply of bleeding their hearts onto their sleeves to meet this moment anyhow, and just because youth’s worries are now in rearview, it doesn’t mean adulting and its subsequent adulted relationships don’t stop keeping you up at night either. “Are you sleeping off all the things that I said?,” goes its chorus. “Counting sheep in sour-sweet indifference?” The rest of the band are right there with them for the head-on collision in big riffs, a dynamo of rhythm, and some weird ass guitars sizzling through the speakers that you could swear sound almost like synthesizers for good measure. You can hear them tossing and turning in the train of thoughts, but tonight, we’re losing sleep over how this makes our hearts beat fast with anticipation…
