The title of the latest single from Ela Minus’ anticipated sophomore album DÍA is “BROKEN”, but the listen in itself sounds like an emancipation of the self for the Columbian-born electronic producer, and one that puts her entire creative body and spirit back together. Doubling as the album’s opener, this is Minus distancing herself from the outside restraints heard on 2020’s acts of rebellion in relinquishing herself to what once held her back. The music itself follows suit, unraveling from the weight in her reckoning through a spectacular light show of criss-crossing synthesizers and a four-on-the-floor anthem that exudes spectacular of her pop-minded strengths. “I’m on my knees / Having fun / A faith / Here I am again / Let me in, breathe in,” she exhales in its chorus. It’s a reminder that there’s no need to self-martyr suffering. Admitting that much is the first leap into something bigger, even if it can feel like a freefall at first.
