mo dotti – “whirling sad”

If you are looking for tears here, then you’re out of luck. “whirling sad” is windswept in emotions in ways we don’t typically associate with the melancholic, but that’s the other side of looking out on life with eyes full of wistfulness. It can be a lot to take in head-on. The second single from mo dotti’s debut full-length, opaque, feels it all and sonically pushes bounds in what makes the Los Angeles noise-pop band such an exhilarating experience on the senses in every direction. Vocalist and guitarist Gina Negrini soars across a dizzying rush of lush spirals searching for some clarity, but as is with that state of being, everything is made all the more tangled by her ‘mates guitarist Guy Valdez, bassist Greg Shilton, and drummer Andrew Mackelvie doing their most to blur the lines of sight. Once she’s caught in it all, she may as well ride out the sensation all the way.
