Hannah van Loon, b.n.a. Tanukichan, and the enigmatic Natalie R. Lu, b.n.a. Wisp, were in the same building when each took part in the west coast version of Nothing’s Slide Away fest this past spring. It’s not entirely improbable to believe that “It Gets Easier”, the latest preview from the former’s upcoming EP, Circles, began coming together when these two energies from shoegaze and dream-pop’s next-gen met. The pair are a perfect compliment to one another’s halo bliss if it’s a maximalist ethereal you’re chasing through their whisper songs. Still, blur-strewn riffs and hyperspeed drums give it a soft yet cataclysmic touch. Perhaps that’s just the natural reaction of when two forces of equal measure in the modern shoegaze atmosphere collide…
Tanukichan’s Circles will be released September 20th on Carpark Records.
