Alan Sparhawk – “Get Still”

To be still is to be comfortable in sitting with yourself, your thoughts, and anything which they may bring your way — comfortable or not. It’s an act of giving into your surroundings and acknowledging what they are, in a certain sense. These deeper meditations within are something Alan Sparhawk is embracing on the latest preview from his forthcoming solo album White Roses, My God. In doing so, the sonic canvas which the co-vocalist and guitarist of Low is expanding is in mind, both creativity and spiritually. Like its predecessor, “Can U Hear”, the listen further presses into more exploratory electronic unknowns akin to the band’s late-era work through a subconscious-tapping portal. A disorientation of synthesizers, the thump of electronic drums, and his vocals transformed through a pitch pedal challenge your frame of the world around you. “I want to make you feel,” is one line that can be heard throughout. Once you’re pulled in, the art of stillness is inviting.
